What is the junction capacitance (Cj) range for HVD diodes?
Junction capacitance (Cj) is a critical parameter for high-frequency diode applications as it directly impacts switching losses and circuit bandwidth. HVC's HVD series offers:
| HVD Series | Typical Cj Range | Measurement Condition | Frequency Impact |
| HVD-Standard (5-30kV) | 3pF – 12pF | VR = 50% VRRM, f = 1MHz | Suitable to ~10MHz |
|---|---|---|---|
| HVD-Fast Recovery | 2pF – 8pF | VR = 50% VRRM, f = 1MHz | Suitable to ~30MHz |
| HVD-UltraHigh Voltage (50-100kV) | 5pF – 20pF | VR = 50% VRRM, f = 100kHz | Suitable to ~5MHz |
| HVD-High Current (0.5-5A) | 15pF – 50pF | VR = 50% VRRM, f = 1MHz | Suitable to ~5MHz |
Design Note: Junction capacitance varies with applied reverse voltage — it decreases as reverse voltage increases (varactor-like behavior). HVC provides Cj vs VR curves in full datasheets for accurate circuit simulation. For Cockcroft-Walton multiplier designs, lower Cj improves high-frequency efficiency but is secondary to PDIV and surge ratings for most 50/60Hz industrial applications.
