For decades, Murata DHS (bolt/doorknob) and DHR (radial) HV ceramics set the bar for medical imaging (CT/X-ray), NDT, and precision HV supplies. Murata’s 2018 withdrawal of its HV ceramic line (about 2–50 kV) created a real supply gap.

OEMs need Pin-to-Pin electrical, mechanical, and long-term reliability. HVC specializes in HV passives: drop-in options for discontinued Murata types, with N4700 Class I dielectric, ratings to 100 kV, and data aligned to original datasheets.

2.1 Why Murata exited

Murata shifted capacity to high-volume MLCCs (EV, 5G)—not because HV ceramics failed technically.

DHS/DHR are high-mix, smaller-lot: strontium-titanate dielectrics, vacuum epoxy, strict PD testing. That segment is where HVC invests.

2.2 HVC’s role

We do not compete in MLCCs; we focus on HV plug-in/bolt ceramics Murata no longer builds.

DHS (doorknob): about 20–50 kV, CT tanks, lasers. DHR (radial): about 3–15 kV, static/ion/flaw-detection gear.

3.1 Dielectric (N4700 / ZM)

Murata’s ZM is the industry N4700 Class I dielectric for HV, HF use.

  • Murata ZM: DF ≤0.2% typ.; ΔC about ±30% (−20°C to +85°C); conservative self-heating under extreme HF pulses.
  • HVC N4700: DF ≤0.1–0.2%; lower ESR in multipliers (20–100 kHz) → less self-heating (matters in oil-filled CT stacks). ΔC within ±5% over temperature—tighter than generic Y5T/Z5U references.

3.2 Voltage

Murata DHS peaked around 40–50 kV. For 60–100 kV (accelerators, Marx generators, grid), users often stacked parts—more bulk, harder qualification.

  • Same volume: e.g. 60 mm body can reach higher margin than Murata without external series strings.
